Study on the Kinetics and Mechanism of Oxidation of Ethanolamide with Potassium Ferrate (VI) by the Stopped-Flow Method

Abstract: The kinetics and mechanism of oxidation of ethanolamide by potassium ferrate(Ⅵ) in the pH range of 9.89 to 10.70 has been investigated spectrophotometrically by the stoppedflow method. The order both with respect to potassium ferrate and ethanolamide was found to be unity and that with respect to OH a negative fraction. There was no effect on the variation of ionic strength. A mechanism which includes a twoelectron transfer throngh hydrogen bridge between the ion and the molecule was suggested. The rate equation derived from this mechanism can explain all the observed experimental facts satisfactorily and some rate constants were obtained.
