Simultaneous Catalytic Removal of Soot and NOx over Single Metal Oxide Catalysts

Abstract: A series of single metal oxide catalysts were prepared and their catalytic activities were investigated for simultaneous removal of soot and NOx in an oxygen rich condition. Effects of contact intensity between catalyst and soot as well as simultaneous removal paths for soot and NOx were also studied. Results showed that metal oxide catalysts of Cr, Mn, Co, and Ni exhibited high activities for simultaneous removal of soot and NOx and still had high activities in the loose contact mode between catalyst and soot. Simultaneous removal paths found were that NO2 formation by oxidation of NO promoted soot oxidation and CO formation by soot oxidation reduced NOx.
