Electrochemistry and XPS of Palladium Oxides

Abstract: Palladium oxide electrodes were prepared by decomposition of Pd(NO_3)_2 or thermal oxidation of Pd, their voltammetric characteristics were found to be dependent on preparation methods. XPS analysis showed that these electrodes had different compo-sitions. The impedance behavour of the electrodes can be presented with a simple eguivalent circuit containing a constant phase-angle element, indicating the microin-homogeneity of the oxide layers. The pH-sensing properties of the electrodes were measured and the pH response mechanism was discussed.
