Abstract: The micellar aggregation numbers of sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS), sodium dodecyl sulfonate(AS) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB) has been determined from steady-state fluorescence quenching method, using pyrene(PYR) as probe and diphenyketone(DPK) as quencher. The range of validity of the method used in this work for the determination of micelle aggregation number is discused. The results obtained show that this probe-quencher system applies to the determination of micelle concentrations and aggregation number of anionic and cationic micelles.
