Abstract: The ever-increasing global energy demand and intensifying environmental pressures have rendered the development of high-efficiency and green energy storage devices increasingly imperative. Aqueous multivalent metal-ion batteries (AMMIBs), which utilize earth-abundant and environmentally friendly elements such as zinc (Zn), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), and aluminum (Al), exhibit considerable promise for large-scale energy storage applications. Nevertheless, the complex energy storage mechanisms in aqueous media pose substantial challenges to the exploitation of advanced battery materials. Metal-organic framework (MOF)-based materials have been extensively explored in AMMIBs owing to their distinctive characteristics including customizability, large specific surface area, controllable structural topology, and tunable porosity. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the latest advances and prevailing challenges of MOF-based materials in the synthesis of key AMMIB components (including electrode materials, separators, and electrolytes) over recent years, and further puts forward insightful perspectives on future research directions.
