Observation of the Domain Morphology of Gemini Surfactant at an Air/Liquid Interface Using BAM

摘要: 测定了偶联表面活性剂propilidene-1,3-bis(dimethyloctadecylammonium bromide) (PBDOAB)在0.005 mol•L-1 NaBr溶液气/液界面上的分子面积和表面压-分子面积等温线.用自制的Brewster角显微镜观察了PBDOAB在该溶液的气/液界面上的区域结构.结果表明, PBDOAB在0.005 mol•L-1 NaBr溶液的气/液界面上生成了凝聚态的单分子膜;观察到在界面上形成了环形的区域结构;在环形结构内的分子取向呈中心对称.

Abstract: The surface pressure-area per molecule isotherm of Gemini surfactant [propilidene-1,3- bis(dimethyloctadecylammonium bromide), PBDOAB] at an air/liquid interface of 0.005 mol•L-1 aqueous NaBr solution has been measured. The cross-sectional area of PBDOAB at the air/liquid interface has been obtained. Domain morphology formed by PBDOAB at the air/liquid has been investigated via BAM. Results show that PBDOAB forms condensed monolayer; that the circular domain morphology has been observed and that in the circular domains the molecular orientations of the PBDOAB is of central symmetry at the air/liquid interface of the aqueous NaBr solutions. It is proved that the chemical structure of Gemini surfactants strongly influences their properties at the air/liquid interface.
